A powerful, yet graceful starboard, Liene Bertasjus enters her second season in the USC program... in 2007, she rowed from the No. 3 seat in the Varsity Eight in one of the most successful seasons in program history... her boat won the coveted Jessop-Whittier Cup at the 2007 San Diego Crew Classic (only the second time in USC history) and was also crowned the Pac-10 Champion after convincingly winning the Grand Final... her contributions helped bring the Trojans their first Pac-10 Conference team championship and secured the second team bid to the NCAA Championships in school history... her Varsity Eight remained undefeated until the final race of the season.

Rowing Highlights:
Bertasjus was a member of the Majori Rowing Club in Latvia (2002-2006)... winning gold in the fours at the 2003 Baltic Cup... won gold medals in both singles at 2006 Latvian Nationals and doubles at the 2006 Amber Oars International Regatta... a member of the Latvian National team, earning bronze in the single scull at the 2005 U18 Junior World Championships... gold medal at the 2006 Baltic Regional in the double scull event.

Liene Bertasjus was born in Priekule, Latvia... a 2006 graduate of the Murjanu Sports Gymnasium in Jurmala, Latvia... has one brother, Armands and one sister, Sintija... grandmother, Velta Zarina, played volleyball for the Latvian National team... her biggest sports hero is Jelena Prokopcuka (winner of the 2005 and 2006 New York Marathon)... lists her favorite food as pancakes and her favorite TV show as America's Funniest Home Videos.
