The Haskins Award
The Haskins Award, college golf's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, has been presented each year since 1971 to the top collegiate golfer in the nation.
Two Trojans have been Haskins Award recipients:
- Scott Simpson, who won it after capturing the second of back-to-back tourney crowns in 1977. Simpson went on to compete on the U.S. Walker Cup team in 1977, beginning an outstanding pro career which includes 6 tour victories and over $3.8 million in earnings.
- Sam Randolph, named the winner after his NCAA runner-up finish and 1985 U.S. Men's Amateur title. Randolph also competed on the '85 U.S. Walker Cup team.
The award, voted on by media and collegiate coaches and players, is housed in the World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, N.C., and a replica is given to the winner.
