2008: The versatile Howell, who has worked at every offensive line position, will battle for playing time at offensive tackle as a junior in 2008.

2007: Howell, who served as a backup at offensive guard and center as a sophomore in 2007, missed USC's first 6 games while recovering from a sports hernia suffered in 2007 fall camp. He played briefly at Notre Dame in his only action in 2007.

2006: Howell served as a backup center as a redshirt freshman in 2006 (he also was available to play offensive tackle). He appeared in all 13 games in 2006, primarily on special teams. He saw brief action at center in 4 contests (Arkansas, Stanford, Oregon, Michigan).

2005: Howell redshirted as a freshman offensive tackle in 2005, his first year at USC.

HIGH SCHOOL: He earned 2004 Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star All-West, Tom Lemming All-West, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports All-State second team, Fresno Bee All-Star and All-League notice as a senior two-way lineman at Bullard High in Fresno (Calif.).

He also played volleyball at Bullard. Current Trojan Anthony McCoy also prepped at Bullard.

PERSONAL: He's an American studies and ethnicity major at USC. His father, Pat Howell, was an All-American offensive guard at USC in 1978 when the Trojans won the national championship and he then played in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons (1979-83) and Houston Oilers (1983-85).
