Angela Williams of USC has been named the 2002 Mondo women's track and field athlete of the year for NCAA Division I by the United States Track Coaches Association.

The announcement was made by Ralph Lindeman, track coach at the U.S. Air Force Academy and president of the Division I coaches' group, following a vote of member coaches after the NCAA championships last week at LSU.

Williams won an unprecedented fourth straight 100-meter dash title in 11.29 to help lead USC to a third-place finish at the 2002 NCAAs.

It's her second national honor in as many weeks. Last week, she won the Honda Award as the nation's finest women's track athlete.

The USTCA national athlete of the year was selected from a list of regional athletes of the year for the nine NCAA track and field regions---or via write-in. Williams was picked as a write-in.

Women's regional athletes of the year were Katie Jay, Cornell (Northeast); Lauren Simmons, Princeton (Mid-Atlantic); Molly DeFrancesco, James Madison (Southeast); Elva Goulbourne, Auburn (South); Muna Lee, LSU (South Central); Danielle Carruthers, Indiana (Great Lakes); Austra Skuyjte, Kansas State (Midwest); Ida Nilsson, Northern Arizona (Mountain); and Ellannee Richardson, Washington State (West).
